| | | | All About Ms. Leepalao! This is a little bit about myself. I was born in Sisteron, France
but grew up in French Guyana. My family moved to Minnesota in
1989 and have lived here ever since. I have a huge family of 5
sisters and 3 brothers. I went to Battle Creek Park Elementary,
Washington Middle School, and Como Park High School. Then I
attended the University of Minnesota Twin Cities where I earned my
Bachelor and Master's degree in Elementary Education.
The first month of the school year is the most challenging one for all
of us. The first month I focus on assessing, getting to know the
students, and establishing rituals and routines. I want to know
about their reading, writing, and math levels. I want to know
their interests | | Smile for the camera! | and capabilities in different situations. I want
to know that they understood my expectations. Without the basic
foundations, it will be harder for them for the rest of the year.
As the year proceeds, the materials will become more difficult.
There are many concepts and skills that need to be taught in this grade
which could have nothing to do with the subjects such as working in
groups, sharing, following directions, taking care of materials, and
many others. A student may be high in one skill but is still in
need of practice in other skill areas necessary for independence.
It is only the beginning...
Be not afraid of moving slowly, Be afraid only of standing still!
