Reading I have sent home two books. Please take some time to listen to your child read. Return the books, plastic bag, and signed note to school by the due date (Friday, March 19). These books will count toward the district's goal (you can write them on the list). Please return February's Book-It list. Spelling No spelling this week. It's a short week. Math We started Unit 8 this week. It will review money and introduce the dollar and review place value concepts, and continue to develop an understanding of fractional parts of a whole. Art I have two wonderful arents that have been coming in and teaching our class about 8 pieces of art. We were able to see them at the museum on Wednesday. Last Friday they learned about two pieces: a Haniwa Horse from ancient Japan and an Nkisi Nkondi made by the Kongo people. The fabulous parents brought all sorts of things so they could do some constructing of their own. They were able to use cardboard tubes, colored masking/electrical tape and pipe cleaners. The first graders showed considerable creativity coming up with creatins such as: an airplane (that flies all over the world...for free) a replica of Dad, rockets, bridges, trees, flowers and abstract scultures. I hope you enjoyed your child's sculpture.
