Hearts, Hands and Minds on Learning

The ELL program serves learners whose first language is not English. We currently serve students who speak 9 different languages from all over the world.

The ELL teachers and Hmong Educational Assistants collaborate with classroom teachers to provide instruction

to meet the needs of language learners. This collaboration generates a smaller teacher student ratio in the classroom or focused instruction in a quiet setting.

The Read 180 program has been added this year to Groveland Park for 5th and 6th grade Language Academy students.  It consists of a three group rotating system

using a computer component, a teacher directed group, and an independent reading group.  The computer software allows for error correction, oral practice, and reading comprehension.  Students are finding Read 180 to be challenging and ultimately satisfying as they reach new successes in English acquisition.

Volunteer Opportunities with ELL students
Tutoring opportunities currently exist assisting 1st through 6th grade students in reading, math, and writiing.
