Dates to remember ~ Mark your calendars Friday, March 7th ~ NO SCHOOL - Conference Prep Day Sunday, March 9th ~ Daylight Savings Time begins Monday, March 10th ~ Book Orders Due Friday, March 14th ~ Field Trip to MIA ~ 9:30-11:30 Tuesday, March 18 ~ Evening Conferences Wednesday, March 19th ~ Evening Conferences Thursday, March 20th ~ NO SCHOOL - Conferences Friday, March 21st ~ NO SCHOOL - Staff Development Day Monday, March 31 - Friday, April 4th ~ Spring Break Math:   We will be taking the Unit 6 test on Tuesday.   We will begin Unit 7:  Multiplication and Division.  Unit 7 extends the basic multiplication and division skills children learned in the first half of the year.  The main areas of focus are:  to review multiplication and division patterns, to extend basic multiplication facts, and to practice making estimates of costs. * Continue to study multiplication facts every night until they are mastered!!  * Writers Workshop:   The children are finalizing their nonfiction reports.  They have researched the rainforest and an animal of their choice that lives in the rainforest.  They are typing their reports in the computer lab.  Ask your child about it. Readers Workshop: We will be focusing on understanding the main idea of stories.  In addition, we will also be working on Reader’s Theater.  In Reader's Theater, students “perform” by reading scripts created from books or stories.  The goal is to increase fluency and develop confidence through practice.      Literacy Skills: In addition to the word study/spelling, we are working on prefixes, suffixes, and how to write a paragraph. Content: Our next unit will be on Patriotism and American Symbols.
