Meeting commenced at 5:19 p.m.  The minutes and agenda were approved.

Principal’s Report:

  • Playground report – Students  are loving the playground.  Teachers have come up with safety recommendations and communicated those to the students.  A stop sign has been installed and a crosswalk painted between the building and playground.
  • Library – Becky has contacted a retired librarian to come and assess the library and do some weeding out of the books.  She’ll be paid around $40 per hour for a few days.  We will be using funds from the Scholastic book fair.  She is willing to train volunteers and staff on how to remove books from circulation that she identifies for weeding.  She’ll be giving us an estimate regarding what else might be needed in the library.
  • Enrollment – we are at 420 students this week.
  • Hmong New Year coming up Thurs. Nov. 29 from 6-8 p.m. in the Gym
  • Band Concert – Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Gym
  • Half day Kindergarten – St. Anthony Park is discontinuing this option next year.  Becky questions what will happen if we get too many students wanting half-day kindergarten.  She is getting a fair number of inquiries about it for next year.

Parent Information Fair:  volunteers needed on Feb. 2 9:30-2:00.  Please email or let Becky Pedersen know if you can help.

Playground Committee Report:  none

Marketing Committee Report:  Alice Johnson reported that the DVD and brochure will be done in time for Parent Info Fair.  Alice will bring samples to the next Site Council Meeting in January.  If you have feedback on the overall message on the website send that to Todd O’Bert.  Julie Bach offered to give it a professional review from a copy-editor point of view.

Topics for January:

  • half-day Kindergarten,  is there a way to survey folks (like at the Parent Information Fair) and find out if there is strong interest, add a survey item on the website (would you like half-day, and if there wasn’t busing…),
  • Should Groveland buy new Pandas?,
  • a long-term strategy for the library (post-assessment),
  • wellness
  • Parent Survey should be done earlier – discuss in early part of the year – give it out during conferences

Wellness:  need to form a wellness committee and it needs to include parents.  Bruce Finger and Ryan Kavanaugh are looking for volunteers.

Meeting adjourned at 6:34.

Next meeting Tuesday, Jan. 15.  There will be no December meeting.
