April 2008 4/16/2008 9:48 PM Third Grade News Room 3124 April 7, 2008 Dear Families, It was good to see you at conferences and talk with you about your child.   I hope you all enjoyed Spring Break! Dates to remember ~ Mark your calendars Thursday, April 10th ~ Science Fair - 6 to 8 PM Friday, April 11th ~ Book Orders Due Tuesday, April 15th & Wednesday, April 16th, ~ MCAII - Reading Monday, April 21st ~ Field Trip to Valley Branch - 9:30 - 2:00 Tuesday, April 22nd & Wednesday, April 23rd, ~ MCAII - Math Wednesday, April 30th ~ Early Release Day - 1:40 PM Math:   We are working Unit 8:  Fractions.  Unit 8 has two primary objectives:  to review the uses of fractions and fraction notation, and to help children develop a solid understanding of equivalent fractions.                  * Continue to study multiplication facts every night until they are mastered!!  * Writers Workshop:   The children have completed their nonfiction reports.  We are working on writing good paragraphs and will begin a unit on writing poetry. Readers Workshop: We will focus on reading strategies including recognizing the main idea, cause and effect, and fact and opinion.  We will also continue to work on Reader’s Theater scripts.
