advanced students meet for 30 minutes once a week as a full band.  This will happen after we get going with lesson groups.   When beginning students are ready to play with the large group, they are added to the band.

Groveland Park Elementary Band Rules
Here are the expectations I have given to all of the students which parents and students should be aware of and to insure the best music experience for them.

New Director at Groveland for the 2007-2008 School Year
Here is some background on the new Director of Bands at Groveland Elementary for the 2007-2008 school year,  Mr.  Randy Peterson.

Mr. Peterson's Schedule
This is a month by month calendar of the alternating schedule which Mr.  Peterson follows as he alternates between Groveland, Roosevelt, and Highland Park.

Lesson Groups
These are the groups set up using the school colors for the alternating schedule.  There are groups on Band Day Red and Band Day Black.  Full band rehearsals will be arranged later during the year as we get closer to our Concert and will probably be on Black Days because the majority of my advanced students are on Black Days.  There is some flexibility in switching lesson times.  I can adjust the times if a student, teacher or parent communicates that there is any problem with the time scheduled.

Student Assignments
This is where each group is in their book.  Which book they are in and extra things that they should be practicing besides the songs and pages assigned. Students should work on scales, counting and clapping rhythms, saying letter names of notes in rhythm while using fingerings, memorizing fingering chart, working to their lowest and highest notes to increase their range, songs provided to the students, other assignments described and provided by the instructor.  Remember Brass players don't over work your muscles used to play.  Play no more than 5-10 minutes at a time until you develop more endurance.  Rest 10 minutes and then play 5-10 minutes more.  Students are expected to practice 20-30 minutes every day!  Listen to recordings of your instrument as often as possible so you know the characteristic sound and can imitate it.  When in doubt please as for help.
