Principal’s Report

  • Preliminary budget is in.  Projected enrollment is about 470 students.  The large increase from this year is largely due to the closing of Homecroft.  (We are currently at 405 students).  The challenge will be that if not that many students show up there will be adjustments to staffing in the Fall.  Meanwhile, we want to make sure we are staffed sufficiently.  Site council attendees voiced concern with this high number that it may not be realistic given that many of the Homecroft students have already chosen Highland Elementary for next year.
  • Director of Elementary Education will look at staffing with Becky.  The district would like to see a part-time library person in a school our size (e.g. librarian, EA, TA).  We could also have more parents trained for next year.  The district is also telling us that we need a .5 content coach (curriculum coach) just as we did this year to deliver/coach staff development. This position will have to come out of our budget. The district will not be giving us additional dollars to cover this position.
  • Leadership Team will look at the budget.  On April 21, parents can come and have input on the budget and the SCIP.
  • 4th grade classes will be large next year.  Becky would like to have three classes instead of the customary two classes.  She is thinking about having Paul Nelson take on a classroom again.
  • SCIP –  An initiative will be added to the SCIP to develop a behavioral plan. Staff discussed a couple of behavioral plans and may also develop their own plan. Becky will be looking for parent input.
  • There are discussions going on about alternative methods to deliver foreign language curriculum.  One idea was to offer an after school Spanish class thru Community Education but onsite here at Groveland for a fee ($5 per child per session).
  • There will be a New and Prospective parent meet and greet at Coffee Bene on April 24 – 7 PM.  Parents are needed to help at this event.

Celebrate Groveland

Nothing to report….   Raffle tickets are available now.  Same entertainment as last year.

Sargent Avenue Clean Up

There is debris being left on the weekend – beer cans, and other trash.  How could we fix this situation?  Better lighting, trash cans made available?  What about asking Parks and Rec if there is something they can do about it.  The back steps are also very slippery because the custodian can’t get to all of it in the morning before school.
