Principal's Report:

Budget Report
- Cleva has been getting lots of questions from parents on staffing for next year. She reported that there will be three sections for each of grades 1-3. There are numerous teaching positions that will need to be filled. Normally these openings would be posted. However, due to the seniority of teachers at the school (the ELL and LA teachers figure into this seniority) there will likely be a shuffling of teachers within the school. These positions will be offered by seniority to teachers already in the building.
- Cleva expects to need a .8 LD teacher (down from 1.0), and a 1.5 Title I aid. We will also be hiring a full time technology person to staff the new computer lab.
- There will be a special 5th and 6th grade program for ELL students, somewhat on the order of Readers and Writers Workshop.
- We will retain our nurse, Mr. Finger, and Mr. Kavanaugh and Mr. Leiknes. Groveland will see a cut in teaching assistants.
- Cleva laid out a proposed staffing plan but stressed that it was very likely to change before fall. This staffing plan will be revisited at the June meeting.

Other items:

- Kristi Gloe managed to secure 73 Vista Volunteers (this year?). This is the most in the district!

- SCIP - The School-wide Continuous Improvement Plan is complete and can be read online. It is will reopen for revisions in the fall after test data arrives (Sept. - Oct.).

- Transportation for next year: Our Language Academy and TLC kids will continue to be bused to Groveland, unless they move out of our attendance area.

Celebrate Groveland Event Update: Kris Hageman gave a quick recap of our fundraiser.
o The event went well, thanks to committed volunteers. Kris extended thank-yous to Dana Bergman (co-chair), Don McCoy, Annette Hansen, Jean Bergstrom, Craig Roen, Tim Hageman and Julie Printz. All total there were 64 volunteers that helped in some capacity.
o Groveland's celebration was a 0-waste event. All plastic, paper and glass was recycled and food waste was composted.
o 158 people attended, 183 tickets were sold and more than 180 silent auction items were donated.
o The revenue generated was distributed as such: 71% of the revenue was auction revenue, 18% ticket sales, 6% bar. The Heads and Tails game brought in $360 and there were $700 in direct donations.
o The event included performances by a parent band and the Sirens (acapella group from Macalester College). There was a live auction piece (weekend give-away, boat ride with Dr. Jobe, St. Paul Hotel) as well.
o Although the auction brought in more this year, the expenses were also greater, largely in part to having to purchase liquor liability insurance at $900 (that item was donated last year). $900 in items and materials for the event were donated by Groveland families. The event netted $10,954 (the goal was $12,000).
o 1/3 of the businesses donated for the first time this year. Paint Your Plate has offered Groveland a potential fundraiser for next year, promising to give back 10% of profits from Groveland families who visit the store during a certain time period.

Playground Update:

o Vendors have come to check out the site on the west end of the school and all seemed okay with that site as a potential playground site. The committee has chosen Landscape Structures - the same vendor that built the very popular Mattocks playground.
o There will be a meeting with the Mac/Groveland Community Council to announce Groveland's intention to build a playground and solicit their approval/help.
o The concept is reasonably within our budget. Volunteers will install for a substantial savings.
o The Groveland community will need to raise $25,000 towards the approximately $85,000 project.
o Jessica Pihlstrom handed out a FAQ sheet that will also be distributed to all Groveland families. If people have questions they can contact Jessica.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is planned for June 6th at 5:15 p.m.
