At Groveland, we are committed to quality education and to meeting the learning needs for all our students. Through classroom and specialty teachers, we will provide an educational experience that promotes and develops the gifts and talents of each of our students.
How is this accomplished?
Differentiation Flexible Grouping Enrichment Curriculum Mapping
Differentiation
Differentiating classroom instruction is a way of thinking about the learning needs of all our students. This approach to teaching recognizes and adapts to the individual differences of our students and ensures interventions and support when needed for each child. Differentiation in the classroom provides rigor, depth, and complexity for students rather than a pull-out approach to teaching.
Flexible Grouping
Flexible grouping responds to the diverse needs of our students based on the learning task, student readiness, interest, or learning style. Flexible grouping includes whole class instruction, small group instruction, student selected groups, and teacher selected groups. Within the school day students are part of many different learning groups as well as independent work.
Enrichment
Enrichment is a term used at Groveland to describe the many and new experiences all children have to support, extend, and enrich the school's core curriculum.
Curriculum Mapping
The staff at Groveland is currently going through a curriculum mapping process. The propose of creating a curriculum map is to outline the basic concepts taught at each grade level according to the school calendar and standards. Curriculum mapping provides a valuable resource to the staff at Groveland, as it allows us to see the units of study that are taught in each grade level. Curriculum maps are intended to stay flexible so the staff at Groveland can adapt to the different needs of students.
The curriculum map is intended to improve communication between classroom teachers and the enrichment specialist. The curriculum map will allow for effective coordination of enrichment activities, it will be used as a tool to plan and align both in-class and pull-out lessons, and it will serve as a guild to find resource materials for classroom teachers.
